This is a drawing I’m working on for an upcoming show at Gallery Nahcotta in New Hampshire, RI. The show titled Verbatim will feature artwork that contains some type of word that is either motivational, amusing or inspirational to the artist. This is the piece I came up with and my word is Puppeteer.

Ned Ryerson

Paul Paper invited me to participate in a project titled “Postcards to Alphaville” in which various illustrations and artists draw a character from some films. I originally got Phil Connors who I mistakenly thought was Ned Ryerson from Groundhog Day. Ned was that really annoying insurance salesman dude, while Phil Connors was . . . duh, Bill Murray. How I managed to mix that up is a mystery. Anyhow, Paul was kind and flexible enough to allow me to submit Ned instead. Yes, Ned instead.

Here’s the list:
Lisa Benjamenta
Institute Benjamenta, Quay Brothers, 1995

Lou Jean Poplin
The Sugarland Express, Steven Spielberg, 1974

Titta di Girolamo
The Consequences of Love, Paolo Sorrentino, 2004

Lancey Howard
The Cincinnati Kid, Norman Jewison, 1965

Dina
The Band’s Visit, Eran Kolirin, 2007

Patricia Franchini
À bout de souffle (1960, dir. Jean-Luc Godard)

Tony Manero
Saturday Night Fever (1977, dir. John Badham)

Phil Connors
Groundhog Day (1993, dir. Harold Ramis)

Jules Winfield
Pulp Fiction (1994, dir. Quentin Tarantino)

Roberto
Down by Law (1986, dir. Jim Jarmusch)

Woodsman Drawing

November 24, 2009 by MichaelHsiung

I’ve been working on a design and drawing for a band called From Leaf to Feather’s new upcoming album.  The album will be a limited run of 300, printed as a 12″ inch gatefold with drop card.  Here’s one of the drawing/designs that I worked on for it. It’s based on an idea of a character I’ve had – sort of a tree, withering, bearded woodsman.

Just came across a better photo of my pillow on Amber Dianda’s blog. A pillow she made in a trade we did. It’s the best.
